- In a saucepan, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until pale.
- Add the milk and cook over medium heat until thickened, stirring constantly.
- Once thickened, remove from heat and let cool.
- Once completely cooled, fold in the mascarpone cheese until smooth.
Assembly
- In a shallow dish, combine the coffee and liqueur.
- Dip each savoiardi biscuit briefly in the coffee mixture.
- Arrange a layer of dipped biscuits in a serving dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the biscuits.
- Repeat layering with the remaining savoiardi and mascarpone.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Before serving, dust with cocoa powder and top with chocolate shavings if desired.
Notes
For serving, consider presenting it family-style in a large dish. Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Serve it cold for best flavor and texture.
